Chimera is a species of fish related to sharks and rays. It is also called by other names such as rat fish, rabbit fish or ghost sharks. Chimeras generally live at ocean floors at a depth of around 2600 meters in the temperate regions.

Chimera has an elongated soft body with a bulky head and grow up to 150 cm long. Their skeleton is constructed of cartilage and skin smooth without any scales. Their color ranges from black to brownish grey. Most of the chimeras have a venomous spine located in front of the dorsal fins to defend themselves from their predators. Some of the species have lengthy tail and their snout is modified into an elongated sensory organ. Chimeras resemble sharks in some of the aspects; however, unlike sharks, male chimeras also have retractable sexual appendages on its forehead
