Dwarf Gourami is a highly popular aquarium fish due to its almost translucent blue color and red to dark orange  vertical stripes. They have originated from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh; however, they have become widespread outside of the native range. Dwarf gouramis inhabit slow moving streams, rivulets and lakes with plenty of vegetations. Fish breeders have created many different colored varieties of dwarf gouramis such as neon red or neon blue.

Dwarf gouramis are small fish with an average size of 4-5 cm with the largest size of about 9cm. Male fishes have diagonal stripes of alternating blue and red colors while females are silvery. They have touch sensitive cells on their pelvic fins. Average lifespan of dwarf gouramis is about four years but with proper care in captivity, they can live much longer. Being peaceful fish, they work well in most of the aquariums with other varieties of fishes. They can easily tolerate high temperatures up to 27 degree celsius. They prefer algae and meaty foods and also eat frozen or freeze-dried flakes, bloodworms, tubifex and shrimps.
