Electric Catfish have the ability to produce electric shock of up to 350 volts. They can generate the electric shock using electro plaques of their electric organ. They can be found in the tropical Africa and along the Nile River. Nile fish has been well known in the popular ancient Egyptian cultures, where it has been depicted in mural paintings and other artworks. Electric catfish generally use their electric organ to ward off their predators; however, their electric shock is not known to be fatal to human beings.

Electric catfish is usually a nocturnal fish. They feed mainly on other fish by incapacitating their prey with electric discharges. Although electro-receptive system is widely present in the catfishes but electric catfishes a very well-developed electric organ, which is derived from anterior body musculature and it lines the body cavity. Electric catfishes do not have dorsal fins or fin spines. Instead, they have three pairs of barbels. They can grow up to a size of 100 cm long and a weight of 20 kg.

Delta Smelt is a type of smelt fish endemic to the Sacramento Delta in California, where they are distributed from Suisun Bay upstream through the Delta in Sacramento, Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Yolo Counties. Delta Smelts always move together in large schools (groups). Most of the species of Delta Smelt live up to one year and die after first spawning.

Delta Smelt is a slender-bodied fish with a steely blue sheen on the sides with which they appear almost translucent. They feed on  small fishes and invertebrates. One female may lay 1400 to 1800 eggs. Their spawning occurs in spring season in river channels and across the interface of freshwater and saltwater. Once, Delta Smelt used to a common fish in Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers estuary; however from 1993, the species have been designated as critically endangered species. Recently, court s have also legally protected the rare and declining Delta Smelts.

Clownfish and Anemone belong to the same subfamily and are native to wide ranges of warm waters of Indian and Pacific Oceans including Great Barrier Reef and the Red Sea. Clownfish shows an overall yellow, red, orange or black colors with white bars or patches on some of the species. Largest species has recorded a length of 18 inches while the smallest one has a length of just 4 inches.

Clownfish feed on undigested matter that otherwise could potentially harm sea anemone while the fecal matters of clownfish provides nutrients to sea anemones. Activity of clownfish generates greater water circulations which helps sea anemone. Clownfish along with certain other species are the only fish that can remain safe from the poison of sea anemones. Clownfish generally remain in a large group. They are very popular species in Reef Aquariums. However, recently, clownfish are also bred in the tanks to reduce the number taken from the wild. As compared to wild-caught fish, tank-bred clownfish are likely to survive more. Clownfish feed on algae, planktons, mollusks and crustaceans.

Pictures of Fish Cisco Fishes Pictures and Cisco Fishes Kind

Cisco is a salmonid (family of ray-finned fish) fish. They differ from other members of the genus by having upper and lower jaws of approximately equal length. Five endemic species of Laurentian Great Lakes are thought to be of very recent evolution. Cisco species have recently been subjected to lots of research that is being carried out to determine the relationships among the species that have evolved recently.

Ciscoes are extensively explored in commercial fisheries especially in the Laurentian Great Lakes, where deep water forms are considered as the basis of chub fishery. Chub fishery was exclusively based on the various species of Ciscoes. The fishery continues even when the stocks of Ciscoes are falling and other species are spreading through the system. At many places, Cisco species have declined in great numbers. Some of the breeders believe that Ciscoes represent  an incipient species flock. Lots of debates have taken place to  ascertain which were the true species and which were not, particularly due to the facts that some of the species have become extinct.

Pictures of Fish Bat Ray Fishes Pictures and Bat Ray Fishes Kind

Bat Ray is an eagle ray fish that can be found in muddy or sandy sloughs, estuaries, bays, kelp beds and rocky-bottomed shoreline in the eastern Pacific Ocean between the Oregon coast and the Gulf of California. Largest specimens of bat ray can grow up to 90 kg with a wingspan of 1.8 meters. Bat rays can live in environment with large range of salinities. Currently, bat rays are fished commercially in Mexico but not in the United States.

Bat rays feed on mollusks, crustaceans and small fish on the seabed. They use their wing-like pectoral fins to move sand and expose prey animals. They can dig trenches up to 20 cm deep to expose buried prey. Like other stingrays, bat rays have a venomous spine in its tail near the base, which is not considered dangerous to human beings except when attacked or frightened. Bat rays are very popular in marine parks where the visitors are often allowed to touch or stroke ray, usually on the wing.

Pictures of Fish Arowana Fishes Pictures and Arowana Fishes Kind

Arowana is a fresh water bony fish. Arowana family of fish has a bony head and elongate body that is covered by large and heavy scales with a mosaic pattern of canals. Dorsal and the anal fins have soft rays and are long. Pectoral and ventral fins are small. Arowana is also sometimes known as bonytongues, as they have a toothed bone on the floor of the mouth – tongue, equipped with teeth that bite against teeth on the roof of the mouth.

Arowana can obtain oxygen from air by sucking into the swim bladder that is lined with capillaries like lung tissues. It is a carnivorous fish, often being specialized surface feeder. It is an excellent jumper, with some of the species being capable of jumping up to 6 feet (2 meters) from the water surface to catch insects and birds from overhanging branches of trees in South America. Due to the excellent jumping capabilities, they have been nicknamed as ‘water monkeys’. It has often been rumored that Arowana have captured prey as large as low flying bats and small birds.

Pictures of Fish Carp Fishes Pictures and Carp Fishes Kind

Carp is a common name for various fresh water fish . Carp is a very large group of fish originally from Eurasia and Southeast Asia. Carp has long been used as an important food fish for humans. Carp is a very popular ornamental fish in Aquarium and ponds (goldfishes being one of the most popular examples of Carps). As a result, carps have been introduced to various regions.

The most notable and popular ornamental carp is coarse fish that are difficult to hook. In USA, carp is classified as a rough fish. Many of the states have also started viewing the carps as angling fish instead of maligned pest. Carps are considered as the queen of rivers and a stately and subtle fish. In England, carps have been naturalized though earlier the carps were not bred in England. In Australia, scientific studies have proved that carps are the cause of permanent turbidity and loss of submerged vegetation system, with severe consequences for river ecosystems water quality and native fish species.

Pictures of Fish Seahorse Fishes Pictures and Seahorse Shark Fishes Kind

Seahorse is a genus of fish that also include pipefish and leafy sea dragons. About 32 species of seahorse fishes are found in shallow tropical and temperate waters throughout the world. Seahorses prefer to live in sheltered areas such as grass beds, coral reefs or mangroves. Sizes of seahorse fish ranges from very small (dwarf seahorse), about an inch long to those much larger sized seahorses measuring about one-foot long.

Seahorses are bony fish but do not have any scales. They have a thin skin stretched over a series of bony plates arranged in rings throughout its body. Seahorses swim upright unlike their close relative pipefish, which swim horizontally. They are poor swimmers and thus can be mostly found resting at seabeds or coral reefs. Seahorses have long snouts, which makes it possible for them to suck up food. The eyes can move independently of each other much like a chameleon. They feed on small fish, shrimps and plankton (drifting organisms like animals, plants or bacteria). Seahorses are extensively used in Chinese medicines and herbology.
