Electric Catfish have the ability to produce electric shock of up to 350 volts. They can generate the electric shock using electro plaques of their electric organ. They can be found in the tropical Africa and along the Nile River. Nile fish has been well known in the popular ancient Egyptian cultures, where it has been depicted in mural paintings and other artworks. Electric catfish generally use their electric organ to ward off their predators; however, their electric shock is not known to be fatal to human beings.

Electric catfish is usually a nocturnal fish. They feed mainly on other fish by incapacitating their prey with electric discharges. Although electro-receptive system is widely present in the catfishes but electric catfishes a very well-developed electric organ, which is derived from anterior body musculature and it lines the body cavity. Electric catfishes do not have dorsal fins or fin spines. Instead, they have three pairs of barbels. They can grow up to a size of 100 cm long and a weight of 20 kg.

Crocodile shark is a species of shark that are found in warm and tropical waters in the open ocean. They can be found worldwide in Guinea, Angola, South Africa, Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean, Japan, Taiwan, Korea,  Hawaiian islands, Panama and Costa Rica in eastern Pacific. They are not yet known in Western Atlantic.

Crocodile Shark has a spindle shaped body with a short head and moderately long conical snout. They have large eyes. Their pectoral fins are small, broad and rounded while pelvic fins are relatively larger. Crocodile sharks can grow to a maximum length of 1.1 meters and a weight of 6 kg. It is a deep water or nocturnal hunter, often relying on its large eyes. They often move to surface at night to feed and descend back to deeper waters during day time to avoid predators. They feed on moderate to large fish, squids and shrimps. Its meat is generally not suitable as food item; however, its oily liver finds value in other applications.

Cisco is a salmonid (family of ray-finned fish) fish. They differ from other members of the genus by having upper and lower jaws of approximately equal length. Five endemic species of Laurentian Great Lakes are thought to be of very recent evolution. Cisco species have recently been subjected to lots of research that is being carried out to determine the relationships among the species that have evolved recently.

Ciscoes are extensively explored in commercial fisheries especially in the Laurentian Great Lakes, where deep water forms are considered as the basis of chub fishery. Chub fishery was exclusively based on the various species of Ciscoes. The fishery continues even when the stocks of Ciscoes are falling and other species are spreading through the system. At many places, Cisco species have declined in great numbers. Some of the breeders believe that Ciscoes represent  an incipient species flock. Lots of debates have taken place to  ascertain which were the true species and which were not, particularly due to the facts that some of the species have become extinct.

Bat Ray is an eagle ray fish that can be found in muddy or sandy sloughs, estuaries, bays, kelp beds and rocky-bottomed shoreline in the eastern Pacific Ocean between the Oregon coast and the Gulf of California. Largest specimens of bat ray can grow up to 90 kg with a wingspan of 1.8 meters. Bat rays can live in environment with large range of salinities. Currently, bat rays are fished commercially in Mexico but not in the United States.

Bat rays feed on mollusks, crustaceans and small fish on the seabed. They use their wing-like pectoral fins to move sand and expose prey animals. They can dig trenches up to 20 cm deep to expose buried prey. Like other stingrays, bat rays have a venomous spine in its tail near the base, which is not considered dangerous to human beings except when attacked or frightened. Bat rays are very popular in marine parks where the visitors are often allowed to touch or stroke ray, usually on the wing.

Arowana is a fresh water bony fish. Arowana family of fish has a bony head and elongate body that is covered by large and heavy scales with a mosaic pattern of canals. Dorsal and the anal fins have soft rays and are long. Pectoral and ventral fins are small. Arowana is also sometimes known as bonytongues, as they have a toothed bone on the floor of the mouth – tongue, equipped with teeth that bite against teeth on the roof of the mouth.

Arowana can obtain oxygen from air by sucking into the swim bladder that is lined with capillaries like lung tissues. It is a carnivorous fish, often being specialized surface feeder. It is an excellent jumper, with some of the species being capable of jumping up to 6 feet (2 meters) from the water surface to catch insects and birds from overhanging branches of trees in South America. Due to the excellent jumping capabilities, they have been nicknamed as ‘water monkeys’. It has often been rumored that Arowana have captured prey as large as low flying bats and small birds.

Carp is a common name for various fresh water fish . Carp is a very large group of fish originally from Eurasia and Southeast Asia. Carp has long been used as an important food fish for humans. Carp is a very popular ornamental fish in Aquarium and ponds (goldfishes being one of the most popular examples of Carps). As a result, carps have been introduced to various regions.

The most notable and popular ornamental carp is coarse fish that are difficult to hook. In USA, carp is classified as a rough fish. Many of the states have also started viewing the carps as angling fish instead of maligned pest. Carps are considered as the queen of rivers and a stately and subtle fish. In England, carps have been naturalized though earlier the carps were not bred in England. In Australia, scientific studies have proved that carps are the cause of permanent turbidity and loss of submerged vegetation system, with severe consequences for river ecosystems water quality and native fish species.

Seahorse is a genus of fish that also include pipefish and leafy sea dragons. About 32 species of seahorse fishes are found in shallow tropical and temperate waters throughout the world. Seahorses prefer to live in sheltered areas such as grass beds, coral reefs or mangroves. Sizes of seahorse fish ranges from very small (dwarf seahorse), about an inch long to those much larger sized seahorses measuring about one-foot long.

Seahorses are bony fish but do not have any scales. They have a thin skin stretched over a series of bony plates arranged in rings throughout its body. Seahorses swim upright unlike their close relative pipefish, which swim horizontally. They are poor swimmers and thus can be mostly found resting at seabeds or coral reefs. Seahorses have long snouts, which makes it possible for them to suck up food. The eyes can move independently of each other much like a chameleon. They feed on small fish, shrimps and plankton (drifting organisms like animals, plants or bacteria). Seahorses are extensively used in Chinese medicines and herbology.

Electric eel despite the name eel, is not a true eel, rather it is a knifefish or very near to catfish. Electric eels, as the name suggests, can generate a powerful electrical shock that it uses both for hunting and self defense. Electric eels are obligate air breathers, which rise to the surface every 10 minutes or so to gulp the air after which they go back to the bottom.

Electric eels have an elongate and cylindrical body. They can grow up to 2 meters in length and 20 kg in weight. They are the largest species of their biological family. Color on the back is gray-brown and yellow or orange on the belly. Mouth is square and is positioned right at the snout. They have no scales. Electric eels have three organs that generate electricity main organ, hunter’s organ and Sachs organ. These three organs comprise 80% of the body. These organs are made of electrocytes, which are lined up in such a way that current flows through them and produces an electric charge. Electric eels generate an electric pulse in a very similar way to that of a battery. The shock produced by an electric eel could be fatal for an adult human.

Antarctic Cod Fish Pictures and Antarctic Cod Fishes Kind

Antarctic cod fish is famous for producing antifreeze glycoprotein that allows it to survive in the ice laden waters of southern sea surrounding Antarctic sea. They are also known as antarctic toothfish. Antarctic cods have a heartbeat rate of once every six seconds. Scientists are doing research on antarctic cods for cardiac medicines especially in human conditions involving low heartbeats or patients with the conditions of hypothermia.

They are very large fishes and can be caught in the waters below 2000 meters depth. Fully grown antarctic cod fishes are grayish in color, weigh around 135 kg and have a length of more than 2 meters. The flesh of antarctic cod is white and is rich of high oil content. Although the name is antarctic cod but they do not belong to cod family. The taste is very similar to cod and that is why the name antarctic cod. They generally feed on various types of fish. However, they are also known to eat almost anything including the remains of penguins caught by seals and orca on the surfaces.

Angel Shark fishes are unusual genus of sharks with flattened bodies and broad pectoral fins and almost ray-like. They have a strong resemblance to skates and rays. They can be found throughout the world in temperate and tropical seas. They are also known as monk sharks, sand devil and monkfish. They bury themselves in mud or sand with only eyes and part of the body exposed. With a blunt snout, they can easily camouflage to blend in the sand and rocks of the ocean bed.

Forward part of the body is broad and flattened and read part retains a muscular that is more typical of other sharks. Their eyes and spiracles are on the top and five gill slits are on the bottom. Pectoral and pelvic fins are large like wings and held horizontally. Majority of the angel sharks grow to a length of about 1.5 meters (5 feet). Japanese angel sharks are known to grow up to 2 meters. They feed on crustaceans, mollusks and other types of fish. They are generally not aggressive but they can bite when stepped on or handled.
