The scientific name of the maroon clownfish is premnas biaculeatus. This species of clownfish swims the waters of the Great Barrier Reef as well as the Indo-Pacific Ocean. It is also known as the maroon anemonefish or the spine-cheeked clownfish. As with other clownfish species, the notable feature of this fish breed is its stripes, which are normally white but may also be yellow in some fish.
Female clownfish are physically larger than their male counterparts. Moreover, the color of female clownfish is darker red in color compared to their brighter male partners. To keep a maroon clownfish happy and healthy in an aquarium, one must note a ratio of 30 gallons of water per clownfish. Since it lives communally with the sea anemone in its natural habitat, it is also recommended, but not required, to provide the same in an aquarium setting. For feeding, maroon clownfish enjoy herbivore diets as well as frozen shrimps.
